Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other alloy metals. Any silver containing less than 92.5% pure silver is not considered sterling. Silver is a by-product of gold, copper, lead and zinc refining. Although it is more prone to tarnishing from oxidization than other precious metals, you can help prevent the effects by properly storing it and polishing it from time to time.
